Gaspard Mitz
French artist Gaspard Mitz sets up miniature characters in bigger-than-life scenarios in his “Box Stories” collection. Gaspard created his first “Box Story” in Dec 2010 as a gift to his girlfriend, inspired by 1/87 scale model figurines. Self-taught, encouraged by enthusiastic feedback on his boxes, Gaspard has enjoyed diverting figurines from their original functions by shaping them a tailor-made destiny ever since. Gaspard has always been keen on jewel cases-objects, such as music boxes, cuckoo clocks and artist Joseph Cornell’s artworks. Being a great admirer of Japanese aestheticism, Gaspard sets up his scenes in sober, uncluttered atmospheres, and works with selected materials: wood, polystyrene, foam sheets and paper. Box Stories are limited-edition pieces handcrafted in Paris, exhibited in concept stores and galleries in France and abroad.
